In the year 930 AD vikings founded the Icelandic parliament Alþingi (Althingi) at Þingvellir. As well as being the site of the foundation of the oldest parliament in the world, it is also the site of where the North-American and Eurasian tectonic plates are pulling apart.

Hakið viewpoint

Alþingi parliament

Alþingi parliament is believed to be the world's oldest parliament. The historic site where vikings founded their parliament in 930 AD can be found at Þingvellir.

Drekkingarhylur

Drekkingarhylur is a deep pool at the base of a waterfall that was once used for executions in ancient times. 

Peningagjá

A water filled chasm both crystal-clear and deep is a popular spot to throw a coin in and make a wish. This also happens to be a very popular diving location.
