DIRECTIONS

ÖRÆFAFERÐIR – FromCoastToMountains travel service is located right between Iceland’s highest peak Hvannadalshnúkur and the nature reserve cape Ingólfshöfði in Öræfi. FromCoastToMountains has offered mountain guiding to Hvannadalshnúkur and glacier walks in south-east Iceland since early spring 1994, and is, therefore, the oldest mountain guide company operating in Iceland. The company was founded in 1991 by the farmer Sigurður Bjarnason in Hofsnes, when he started to use his hay cart to bring travellers to the nature reserve cape Ingólfshöfði. Sigurður has now retired, born in 1932, but his family continues to offer the Ingólfshöfði Puffin Tour and many other trips around the year. Sigurður´s son and co-founder, Einar Rúnar Sigurðsson, is the pioneer of Ice cave tours in Iceland. Einar started to offer ice cave tours in the year 1996.

In the winter ÖRÆFAFERÐIR – FromCoastToMountains offers ice cave tours. You will get a great opportunity to visit one of the most stunning ice caves in Vatnajökull, the largest glacier in Europe. ÖRÆFAFERÐIR – FromCoastToMountains offers various ice caving tours that take around 3-7 hours and include a 4×4 super jeep ride and exploration of the breathtaking ice cave along with all necessary safety gear and an English speaking mountain guide. ÖRÆFAFERÐIR – FromCoastToMountains have always been known for putting the emphasis on photography in their ice cave tours.

During summer ÖRÆFAFERÐIR – FromCoastToMountains offer the fascinating Ingólfshöfði Puffin Tour. Cape Ingólfshöfði is an isolated headland on the south-east coast of Iceland. This historical nature reserve is home to thousands of nesting seabirds like Puffins. To get to the cape, visitors will travel in a tractor-drawn haycart for around 25 minutes, which is an experience in itself. The tour also includes a guided walk, sightseeing and a 99% chance to see Puffins, during the summer. If you are a photography enthusiast, ÖRÆFAFERÐIR – FromCoastToMountains also offer the Ingólfshöfði Photo Tour specifically aimed for photography.

In other times of the year, ÖRÆFAFERÐIR – FromCoastToMountains offers ice climbing tours, cross country skiing and ski mountaineering tours.

ÖRÆFAFERÐIR – FromCoastToMountains also operate a booking service at their office in Fagurhólsmýri where they will help you to find and book your adventure in the area. You can also visit the booking service online at www.BookingBooth.is

I have traveled to Iceland the last 3 winters and have gone on ice cave tours with Einar on each those visits. You won’t find a more experienced or accommodating guide than Einar to explore Iceland’s spectacular ice caves. If you are a serious photographer like me you will appreciate the effort he makes to provide the best possible settings for great pictures.
