The Hekla Centre is an interesting tourist centre with a contemporary, multimedia exhibition on Hekla mountain, its history and its influence on life in Iceland from the times of the settlement to the present day. The exhibition focuses on the influence of the volcano on the inhabited areas close to it. The history of the nearby districts is traced and the people’s battle with sandstorms and eruptions are told. The centre offers its visitors to dine in an outstanding restaurant as well as facilities for meetings and conferences.
