Project Description

GULLFOSS WATERFALL

Gullfoss, or the Golden waterfall is located in the upper part of the Hvítá river, which is fed by Iceland’s second largest glacier, Langjökull. The flow of the river from the regular rains and the glacial runoff makes Gullfoss one of the largest volume waterfalls in the world. Its an iconic waterfall offering a spectacular view of the forces and beauty of untouched nature. The water plummets down 32 metres in two steps, the upper one has a drop of 11 metres and the lower of 21 metres. It then runs into the rugged 2,5 km long canyon below with walls reaching up to 70 metres in height. As one first approaches the falls, the crevice is obscured from view, so that it appears that the mighty river simply disappears into the earth. On a sunny day, you might be able to see a shimmering rainbow over the waterfall.
