The power of nature can be seen in all it’s glory at Dettifoss, on of Iceland’s most impressive waterfall. With 193 cubic meters thundering from the height of 44 meters every single second, it is the most powerful waterfall in Europe. Saying that you can hear it’s rumble and see the spray of the water from 1 km away, doesn’t even do justice to its mightiness. The only way to experience the sublime and fearsome power of nature that Dettifoss emanates is standing in front of it, observing it’s wall of water. On sunny days, brilliant double rainbows form above the stirring glacial waters.
The waterfall can be approached both from the western and the eastern side of the canyon dug by Jökulsá á Fjöllum. From the West, the full face of Dettifoss can be seen, but from the East, you can get really close to the water and have a side view.
